A Breakthrough for Worldwide Phones Services for the Deaf

By Williams, John M.; Business Week Online,
Publication Date: March 2000

Article describing Ultratec's new textphone, the V.18/T, which could eventually allow people who are deaf or hard of hearing to make and take telephone calls from anywhere in the world. This article focuses mainly on the introduction of the technology in Great Britain. Teletec markets the textphones in Britain, and they are very useful in making country to country calls. This is because Ultratec's V.18/T can sort through most national telecom codes and find one that the text telephones at both ends of the call can use. The introduction of this technology will greatly influence efficiency in the workplace, and provide a means for people who are deaf or hard of hearing to stay in touch with family and friends in other countries.
