Reading Preparation Software

Article discussing a reading preparation software program for children age four to six from Lexia Learning Systems called Lexia Early Reading. Lexia Early Reading was designed to promote the ability to process the sounds necessary to support the development of basic reading skills. The program's learning activities are presented in such a way that students who have no knowledge of the alphabet can use the program. Students can work independently by following verbal computer. Lexia Early Reading has up to 60 learning activities, and introduces over 1,110 words. The activities can help students develop skills in rhyming, word segmenting, sound blending, and familiarity with initial and final consonant sounds. A reporting system is included that enables instructors or parents to identify activities that are mastered, or that require special attention.
