Clinical Trial of a New Digital Device

By Olson, Laurel; Hearing Review, Vol. 10, No. 5, pp. 52-53
Publication Date: May 2003

Study evaluating customer satisfaction with a line of digital hearing devices called the Beltone Oria. The Beltone Oria features a 12-band overlapping compression system called the Beltone Adaptive Fitting Algorithm, which is used to prevent feedback. Seventy-one people with over nine years experience using hearing aids participated in the study. The participants were given the Abbreviated Profile of Hearing Aid Benefit questionnaire for unaided hearing and their current hearing devices before being fit with either a Beltone AVE system or the Med-Rx OtoWizard. Speech perception was evaluated using a monosyllabic word list, with the Beltone AudioExpert CD used for testing. Results indicated that the participants performed better with the Oria instrument compared to their own devices. Qualitative and quantitative results are discussed.
