Screening for Ability to Complete a Questionnaire: A Preliminary Evaluation of the AbilityQ and ShoulderQ for Assessing Shoulder Pain in Stroke Patients

By Turner-Stokes, Lynne; Rusconi, Suzanne; Clinical Rehabilitation, Vol. 17, No. 2, pp. 150-157
Publication Date: March 2003

Study assessing the repeatability and reliability of the AbilityQ and the ShoulderQ in patients with complex disabilities following stroke. The AbilityQ is a screening questionnaire that measures the participant’s technical ability to complete a questionnaire, and the ShoulderQ is a questionnaire that measures the severity of shoulder pain. Forty-nine people with anterior or posterior circulation strokes participated in the study. Thirteen of the patients had cognitive deficits, and twenty-eight had communication deficits. The AbilityQ and the ShoulderQ both demonstrated a moderate level of repeatability in a group of patients expected to have difficulty in completing questionnaires.
