Teaching Multiply Handicapped Switch Users to Scan: A Software Guide

By Koch, Rob; Closing the Gap, Vol. 25, No. 5, pp. 1, 8-9
Publication Date: December/January 2007

Article focuses on the Stages Curriculum, which is a software guide designed to simplify the process of teaching people with multiple disabilities to utilize scanning programs. The purpose of the guide is to make teachers and therapists more aware of the skills that are needed for scanning activities. The author focuses on 13 levels of scanning, which are spaced across 2 categories: (1) a pure cause-and-effect activity, and (2) answering questions via scanning. Once the trainer becomes familiar with specific software, the programs can be modified to meet the needs of individual users. Interested parties are encouraged to visit Assistive Technology, Incorporated (http://www.assistivetech.com/p-stages.htm) for further information on the Stages Curriculum.
