Convio and Easter Seals Partner to Create New Job Opportunities in Web Publishing for People With Disabilities

Article reports on a project conducted by software provider Convio and Easter Seals to create new employment opportunities in web publishing for people with disabilities. The project aims to provide a stronger voice for people with disabilities on the Internet, and to make it easier for them to find and secure jobs online economy. Convio’s web content management accessibility features include the following: (1) full keyboard operation that does not require the use of a mouse; (2) high contrast user interface screens with simplified layouts; (3) preference links on each web page that allow the user to customize how content is presented; (4) enhanced support for screen reader software; and (5) text fonts that can be enlarged or reduced without distorting web page layouts. The project was conducted along with Easter Seals’ Web Author Accessibility Project, which focuses on accessibility for web content publishers. The Web Author Accessibility Project is funded by a United States Department of Commerce Technology Opportunities grant, and is based on the World Wide Web Consortium’s Authoring Tool Accessibility Guidelines.
