Future Trends: Solar-Powered Mobility

By Physical Therapy Products: SOAP Notes,
Publication Date: May 2007

Article discusses research conducted by a student at the University of Nottingham in the United Kingdom to create a solar powered mobility scooter for people with mobility disabilities. The project began when a company that manufactures secure storage sheds for scooters approached the University about integrating solar power to recharge the vehicles. The use of solar power could overcome problems associated with connecting power to the storage shed, which can be very costly. It would also prevent the possibility of the charger overloading the electric supply. Prototype tests were being conducted at the time the article was written.
