Article presents methods that provide access to food labels for people with visual impairment. The implementation of environmental modifications such as organization and lighting as well as adaptive techniques related to using senses other than sight are discussed. The authors also describe visual (large print), tactile (Braille label, plastic or wooden letters); visual-tactile (Spot N’ Line, Hi Marks, Touch-to-See Identifiers), and audio labels (Talking Food Can Lid, Vox Com III, Sherlock Talking Labeling Identifier); the materials available for making and mounting them; and how to develop labeling abbreviations.
