By Vekerdy, Zsuzsanna; Disability and Rehabilitation, Vol. 29, No. 18, pp. 1434-1441Publication Date: September 2007
Study examined the effects of seating posture on daily activities of children with cerebral palsy (CP) using a thoracic-lumbar-sacral orthosis (TLSO) with a SIDO® type of non-rigid frame. The SIDO® frame served as support for the child to be able his/her trunk in the TLSO. A comparison was made of the lateral view of the thoracic-lumbar spine X-ray before and after TLSO- SIDO® application. A total of 42 children with CP were available for follow-up; 15 of the 42 children showed significant feeding problems at the beginning of the study and were identified as a special subgroup with feeding difficulties. Results of the study indicated that regular application of the TLSO- SIDO® in children with spastic CP had a beneficial effect on feeding problems and on posture.
