Lambda: A Multimodal Approach to Making Mathematics Accessible to Blind Students
By Edwards, Alistair D. N.; McCartney, Heather; Fogarolo, Flavio; ASSETS 2006 - The Eighth International ACM SIGACCESS Conference on Computers and Accessibility,Publication Date: 2006
Article reports the results of the Lambda Project, which focused on making mathematical education accessible to students who are blind through the use of information technology. The Lambda System is an attempt to overcome the barriers to access through the development of a linear mathematical solution that can be manipulated by a multimodal mathematical editor. The Lambda Editor provides access to mathematical notation through braille, synthetic speech, and a visual display.
