Debut of Factory-Built, Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle

Article features a vehicle that has been engineered, designed, and built specifically to provide wheelchair accessibility. The vehicle, from the Miami-based Vehicle Production Group (VPG), is named the MV-1 for the “first Mobility Vehicle.” According to the company, the MV-1 meets or exceeds the vehicle guidelines of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and features a deployable access ramp with a 1,200 pound weight capacity, a 36 inch entryway, and an interior containing more than 190 cubic feet of interior volume, with a seating capacity of 6 people. At the time the article was published, VPG had launched a national road show with the MV-1, making stops during the 27-city tour at rehabilitation centers, assisted living properties, hospitals, and retail outlets. Commercial availability was expected in the fourth quarter of 2010.
