Turny Evo Offers Disabled Drivers a Seat

By Coxworth, Ben; Gizmag,
Publication Date: March 8, 2012

Article features a novel system that swivels a vehicle seat and lowers it toward the ground to aid drivers and passengers with limited mobility in getting in and out of the vehicle. The Turny Evo system lifts the front seat out the door of the vehicle, turns it toward the user, and lowers it down. Once the user is seated, the seat and driver or passenger are then pulled back inside the vehicle. According to the manufacturer, Autoadapt, the crash-tested system can be installed on most SUVs, minivans, minibuses, crossovers, and similar vehicles. As the layout of every make and model is different, the Turny Evo’s path can be programmed to accommodate the vehicle. The system is controlled via a handheld remote, which can also be used to move the seat forward or backward inside the cabin. Autoadapt also makes the Carony Classic wheelchair, which has its seat mounted on rails. Users can slide this seat off the mounting rails and onto the Turny Evo’s mounting system; thus the same seat can be used for the wheelchair and the vehicle. The article includes a short video demonstrating the Turny Evo in use on the passenger side of an SUV.
