-------- CUSTOMIZED ADAPTATION --------- PURPOSE: To create a custom wheelchair camera mount for a photographer with hemiplegia related to stroke and limited use of his right arm. This individual cannot simultaneously hold his camera firmly and press the shutter, particularly as he uses large lenses which are quite heavy, and using a tripod to hold the camera doesn’t work either, as it’s difficult to set this up with one hand. Therefore, a custom adaptation solution of creating a wheelchair camera mount was suggested. A design using an inverted U-shaped aluminum frame to support the camera was created. The frame is mounted on the footrests of the individual’s wheelchair using specially made clamps that stay on the chair allowing the frame to be slipped into the clamps as needed. The top section of a tripod is mounted in the center of the frame’s cross bar, held in place with another custom made aluminum fitting. The base of the camera then screws into the tripod head in the normal way. The individual can move the camera up and down the tripod’s shaft, and adjust the angle and direction using a lever on the left side. TITLE: Wheelchair camera mount. JOURNAL: TAD Journal.
