« Previous Product Next Product »--- CUSTOM ADAPTATION --- PURPOSE: To enable an individual with lower extremity amputation to safely work in a small garden. The individual had a lower extremity amputation and uses a cane, walker, scooter, or wheelchair for mobility; however none of these devices proved suitable for use in gardening. The wheelchair and scooter were too high, and when concentrating on a task, the individual would often move away from a cane or walker and then have difficulty going back to it. A guide wire system was created to enable the user to support and steady herself while leaving one hand free for carrying and not interfering with access to the garden beds. A hole was drilled in the upper end of a galvanized iron pipe standing in one corner of the garden a welded eye bolt, undercoated and painted to inhibit rust, was fitted in the hole. To anchor the support at the other end, a dynabolt was inserted in the brick wall of the house and a second eye bolt was attached. A light clothesline cord was strung securely between the two points.
