The PAL (Picture Assisted Library) Assessment is a language development assessment program designed for use with children who have cognitive, communication or learning disabilities or autism. The program is a comprehensive, criterion-referenced test that allows a teacher to sequentially identify literacy milestones and behaviors. Using the PAL Assessment, teachers can assess receptive and expressive language skills, including identification and use of symbols, print awareness, emerging reading and writing skills and developing conventional literacy skills. The writing section can be used to evaluate and track expressive language growth. The reading section can be used to evaluate and track receptive language growth. The program also helps teachers identify literacy goals, track literacy achievement and Response to Intervention (RTI) progress, develop Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals and support portfolio assessments.
