Picture of SMALLTALK INTENSIVE CARE SmallTalk Intensive Care is a direct selection communicator program designed for use by individuals with speech or communication disabilities. This program allows a person to use their Apple iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch as a communicator. The program provides a picture-based vocabulary of phrases that patients can use to communicate their needs and feelings to medical care providers in the intensive care unit (ICU), such as "I have chest pain" or "I want a doctor." The phrases are spoken in a natural human voice and accompanying pictures illustrate their meaning so that users do not need to be able to read English.
