--- DISCONTINUED. (Verified 08/2012) RETAINED IN DATABASE FOR REFERENCE. --- Symbol Writer is a language tutorial program designed for children learning to control a computer using a single switch. Simple two- and three-word sentences can be created using symbols and small words. Words are selected individually to build the sentence. When the sentence is complete, it is spoken and action onthe screen reinforces the learning. Symbol Writer can also be used with a PowerPad with The Porter (see separate entries) for direct selection of the symbol sequence. Parameters are adjustable to meet individual user needs. Overlays for the PowerPad are available separately. COMPATIBILITY: For use on Apple II+, IIe, IIc/c+ and IIGS computers. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: 5.25-inch disk drive, 64K memory, a switch interface and a single switch or a PowerPad and matching overlay (see entry) are required to operate Symbol Writer. An ECHO speech synthesizer is required for the speech output option.
