Teach Me to Talk is a language tutorial program designed for use with children and adults with communication disabilities. This program offers three sections; part one offers pictures of 148 nouns, including animals, foods, transportation, household objects, and simple beginning sounds. Features that can be turned on or off on the fly include pictures morphing to the Mayer-Johnson symbol, a musical interlude before a word is spoken to engage attention, choice of having the word spoken in English or Spanish, movement with or without music prior to the word being spoken, text of the word displayed, male or female voice, excited voice option, automatic scanning, and step scanning. Section two offers 100 puzzles with 2, 3, 8, or 16 pieces that can be put together using cause and effect (pressing a switch causes the piec to be put into place), magna mouse (using the mouse or touch screen, the piece is dragged into place), or scanning (scanning the puzzle and selecting where the piece should go). Section three offers rhyming books with short rhymes corresponding to 100 pictures. The program may be accessed by a mouse, a single switch, a touch screen, or Intellikeys (see separate entry). COMPATIBILITY: Versions are availabe for use on Macintosh and IBM and compatible computers. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: The Macintosh version requires a 68040 processor or a Power PC, a CD-ROM drive, and 8 to 16 megabytes (MB) RAM. The IBM version requires Windows 95/98, 32 MB RAM, CD-ROM drive, SVGA monitor, sound card, and speakers. OPTIONS: A separate Talk Companion Activities ##1 CD-ROM for both Windows and Macintosh is available.
