Picture of LIBERATOR II --- DISCONTINUED. (Verified 2/2005) RETAINED IN DATABASE FOR REFERENCE. --- The Liberator II is an electronic portable direct selection or scanning communicator designed for use by individuals with speech and language disabilities. This communicator features a back-lit display, a 128-location keyboard, overlays and symbol sheets, memory transfer interface for IBM and Macintosh computers, printer capability with printer paper, an operator's manual, and instruction books. Available in a model which permits selection by pressing the appropriate icon or icons or using switch-activated scanning or in a model which enables input using an infrared headpointer, this device uses Unity to software to two types of vocabulary: words used in everyday communication and words required in specific situations. The software is available in two versions: Unity 128 and Unity Condensed version. Unity 128 offers 4,000 words and permits flexibility in adding new words. Frequently used words require two activations, while many nouns require three activations. Combining icons extends the vocabulary beyond the 128 locations. The Unity Condensed version offers 3,000 words and most words require two activations. Both versions organize words naturally by the way they are used. Other standard features include spelling and word prediction for words used infrequently or in specific situations; electronic notebooks for writing letters, papers, shopping lists, or doing homework; arrow keys for adding, deleting, cutting, pasting, and replacing text like a word processor; a math scratch pad and calculator; and a clock, calendar and alarms. POWER: Uses a rechargeable battery. OPTIONS: Eight- and 32-location operating kits, Director II to enable the unit to operate a television or VCR or other device controlled by an infrared remote, an infrared receiver to enable remote operation of a computer and/or printer, a carrying case, and more. DIMENSIONS: 13.75 x 10 3/8 x 3.75 inches. WEIGHT: 7 pounds 14 ounces.
