Features include synthesized and digitized speech, computer emulation, and infrared controls. The Vanguard Plus comes with both Unity 45 and Unity 84 programs pre-programmed in the device. The user can select from integrated versions of Unity ranging from starter vocabularies of 150 words up to the full Unity program with 3,000 words. These Unity programs feature quick access to core vocabulary, Activity Row, spelling and word prediction, and page-based vocabularies. Access can be gained through direct selection, Tracker Ingrated Headpointing (optional), single- or dual-switch scanning and joystick. Other features include a built-in player to enable the user to import WAV files and play MP3/WMA files in stereo, a Secure Digital (SD) card slot that enables the user to store notebooks, music files, etc., and a USB slot for connection of a USB flash drive.
