The DynaVox Tango is a direct selection or scanning communicator designed for use by children, teens and young adults with speech, language, and learning disabilities. Used for day-to-day communication, this speech-generating device combines a broad array of communication methods, such as an intuitive language hierarchy, icons, and easy-to-access pop-ups, with voice morphing technology and a built-in camera so that individuals can better match specific communication needs with the best features to achieve them. Speech capabilities include the ability to record an adult voice and make it sound like a male or female child’s voice, as well as the ability to whisper, whine and shout messages. This communicator uses a language structure that provides easy access to topics and relevant vocabulary. The device also provides the ability to move easily between nearly 2,500 intuitively-organized and fully- customizable phrases to precise word selection or spelling keyboards for more specific communication. "Phrase first” organization features streams of phrases, words, and core vocabulary, enabling individuals to move freely between communication strategies. This system is designed to support effective and efficient novel communication. A pop-up keyboard and key phrase bank are always available, enabling users to spell or say what they need and then return to where they were. The built-in camera and flash enable users to create and store up to 30 photo albums and record a phrase to accompany each photo. The device can be accessed via direct selection, one-switch scanning, dual-switch scanning and auditory scanning. Other features include two standard switch jacks, keyguards, built-in camera, built-in flash, noise-balancing microphone, SD card reader, backup SD card, Compact Flash slot, USB dongle for synching to a computer or keyboard, state-of-the-art speakers, external microphone port, external speaker port, personal audio port, clear device stand, cables to connect the device to a computer or USB keyboard, POWER: Uses rechargeable lithium-ion polymer battery or alternating current (AC) power adapter (included).
