(Verified 7/2002) RETAINED IN DATABASE FOR REFERENCE. --- DragonDictate Classic and DragonDictate Power are voice input programs designed for use by individuals with upper extremity disabilities. Both voice recognition systems enable hands-free operation of personal computers. Users can create, move, edit, and format text by voice command in most Windows applications, including word processors, spreadsheets, web browsers, and more. Corrections can be made by voice or by keyboard, and corrections can be made immediately or delayed to a later time. Voice macros allow automation of text entry for common tasks. Menus and dialog boxes can be activated by speaking the words on the screen, and the mouse can be operated with pinpoint accuracy using the program's MouseGrid. This software is compatible with Dragon NaturallySpeaking (see entry), minimizes pauses between words for a more natural pace, offers support for Office97, and has text-to-speech capability in six languages. The user "trains" the system as it is being used; the pre-programed models are modified accordingly to more closely emulate the individual user's voice pattern. DragonDictate Classic offers a 120,000-word vocabulary, with a 30,000-word active vocabulary and a custom vocabulary capacity of 30,000 words. DragonDictate Power also offers a 120,000-word vocabulary, but has an active vocabulary of 60,000 words and a custom vocabulary capacity of 60,000 words. Both packages include software on a choice of diskettes or CD-ROM, a speech recognition board, a tutorial program, a headset microphone, a BASIC-like macro programming language with a fully-indexed online help file, and installation and user's manuals. DragonDictate Power also offers a premium headset microphone and a manual for the macro programming language. COMPATIBILITY: For use on IBM and compatible computers. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: The Classic edition requires 36 megabytes (MB) of available hard disk space, Windows95 and 16 MB RAM or Windows 3.x with a minimum of 12 MB RAM (16 MB recommended) or Windows NT and a minimum of 16 MB RAM (24 MB recommended), 16-bit sound card or built-in audio system, and a 486 or higher processor (Pentium recommended). The Power edition requires 54 megabytes (MB) of available hard disk space, Windows95 and 20 MB RAM (24 MB recommended) or Windows 3.x with a minimum of 16 MB RAM or Windows NT and a minimum of 24 MB RAM (32 MB recommended), 16-bit sound card or built-in audio system, and a 486 or higher processor (Pentium recommended).
