KidDesk is a desktop program designed with interactive desk accessories for children who have a developmental or physical disability. It is a hard disk security program that allows students to individualize their desktops and launch their own programs without being to able to access system functions that are off limits. An adult code is necessary to reach the hard disk and system functions. Features include six themes for personalization, a Talking Clock, Printable Calendar, Working Calculator, and Message Machine. Multiple teachers can separate "classrooms" for their students. All choices are represeented graphically and require no reading skills. Each student's desk in KidDesk remembers individual settings, such as levels of difficulty and single switch scanning options, in programs designed with the "KidDesk Aware" feature, such as Baily's Book House, Sammy's Science House, Thinkin' Things Collection 1, Thinkin' Things Collection 2, and Words Around Me (see separate entries). This progam includes built in scanning for single switch users and is TouchWindow accessible (see separate entry). It is available on diskette or CD-ROM for Macintosh or Windows. COMPATIBILITY: For use on Macintosh Plus or later or IBM or compatibles. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: Macintosh System Requirements - Macintosh requires 256 color monitor, 4MB RAM, floppy drive for installation (CD-ROM requires CD-ROM drive for installation); System 7.0.1 or higher; hard drive; 13-inch monitor or larger. Optional: microphone, printer, or TouchWindow. Windows System Requirements - Windows 3.1, Windows 95 or later; 386 or better; hard drive; 4 MB RAM (8 MB recommended); floppy drive for installation (CD-ROM requires DC-ROM drive for installation); 256 color SVGA; mouse; sound-output device; microphone required for sound input. Printer and TouchWindow are optional.
