-------- CUSTOMIZED ADAPTATION --------- PURPOSE: To provide a custom adaptation for an individual with fine motor and mobility disabilities. An individual needs to be able to switch a table lamp on and off and is unable to operate the switch built into the table lamp due to limited arm mobility and fine motor skills. A small wooden box (stained and varnished) was made to contain two electrical boxes. One electrical box is for a large rocker switch, the other is for a regular 120 volt receptacle. The box is then connected to a 3-wire supply cable complete with plug, recycled from an old fridge. The wiring is arranged so that the rocker switch controls power to the receptacle. Then the wooden box is screwed to the surface next to the lamp, the lamp is plugged into the receptacle. The rocker switch is easy to operate and it does not move when pressed. This arrangement could be used for any switching application. TITLE: The Large In-Line Switch. WEBSITE: Workshop Solutions. REF: http://www.workshopsolutions.com/COMPLETE/largeswitch.htm.
