The WheelNest Seating System is a portable system for prolonged, balanced seating in wheelchairs, cars, office or other chairs that has a molded seat, solid seat and solid back inserts, and gel flotation seat cushion. WheelNest provides a balanced underseating as well as lumbar back support; helps maintain proper lordosis (curvature of the spine), correct hip position and proper spine alignment; and helps prevent decubitus ulcers. BACK SUPPORT: The back support is made of padded, contoured layered wood with an adjustable, removable lumbar support. Positioning straps designed to adjust and maintain a desired seating level are included. UNDERSEATING: The seat insert features a pommel for leg separation and alignment and contoured sides for balance and maneuverability. It also has a concave form and a sacral cut-out designed to relieve pressure at the ischial tuberosities and coccyx (tail bone). CUSHIONING SYSTEM: For the protection of tissue and skin, the WheelNest cushioning system features a visco-elastic polymer (AKTON) pad bonded to a layer of polyurethane foam overlaid on a wood base. This base was designed to prevent slouching and reduce shear forces on the skin. AKTON is a coherent, soft solid which does not bottom out; it adjusts to the shape of any surface it contacts then returns to and permanently holds its original shape when not under load. Since it is a solid, AKTON will not leak if punctured. COMPONENTS: WheelNest seating system, right and left lateral pelvis wedges, adjustable and removable lumbar support pad, front/back hip positioning wedge, half-inch and one-inch lateral pelvis elevation units, and one-inch hip positioning elevation unit. DIMENSIONS: 18 x 16 inches or 16 x 16 inches. WEIGHT: 7.5 pounds for the 18-inch model, 6.5 pounds for the 16-inch model. COLORS: Blue, black, and burgundy. WARRANTY: Two-year limited.
