--- DISCONTINUED. (Verified 10/93) RETAINED IN DATABASE FOR REFERENCE. --- Light probe with amplifier. Pen shaped light sensor connected by a 25 inch coil cord cable and plugged into an input jack on a small box. The box contains a speaker, amplifier, battery and volume control. When the light sensor is pointed toward a light source, the unit produces a buzzing sound; the brighter the light source, the higher the pitch of the buzz. Unit is a passive light probe only (no internal light source). Plastic case is easily opened to replace battery, but manufacturer suggests a sighted person replace battery, to ensure internal wiring is not disturbed. Controls are single on/off and volume switch. There is also an output jack permitting operation in one of three modes: speaker audio, earphone, or headset. The latter two automatically bypass the speaker when the earphone or headset plug is inserted into the output jack. Power: 9 volt transistor battery or 120 volt power source. Light sensor approximately 4 1/2 inches long and 1/4 inch in diameter and amplifier speaker box is 3 1/2 inches long by 2 1/ 2 inches wide, by 1 1/2 inches deep.

Notes: Primary use by blind persons to obtain jobs in industry, government or private enterprise as telephone receptionists or operators.

Price: 27.50 to 22.50.
