(Verified 1/2001) RETAINED IN DATABASE FOR REFERENCE. --- The Action Arm (no. 10085) is an arm exerciser and eye-hand coordination activity designed in conjunction with physical and occupational therapists to provide adjustable resistance, repetition and kinesthetic feedback, and assist in developing fine, medium and gross motor movements, eye-hand coordination, strengthening of muscles, and improved wrist and finger dexterity. The arm may also be used to improve such motor skills as writing, eating, working, and craft activities, or used in special education programs or at home in the treatment of motor learning disabilities. For clients with tremors and other neuromuscular disabilities, this device may dampen spastic movement and help in controlling tremors. The Action Arm is a metal device with joints which increase or decrease resistance to specific movements within each joint. Knobs have dial settings that establish a baseline reading and track progressive resistance levels. A therapist can monitor resistance to forward-reverse and side-to-side movement as well as to motion in all directions of the wrist joint. The arm's "hand" end has an adjustable fitting that holds writing implements, eating utensils, or other instruments to 1-inch in diameter. The client uses the arm by gripping and manipulating the stylus mounted here, often working with stencils and other tracing devices.
