Picture of CHALLENGER DX (MODELS 1500, 1500E, 1500N, 1500NE, 1500W, and 1500WE) The Challenger DX is a powered foldable wheelchair designed for use by adults with lower extremity, mobility, or neurological disabilities or spinal cord injury. In addition to the standard model 1500, the Challenger DX comes in narrow (N) and wide (W) versions. FRAME (HxLxW): 36 x 41 x 23, 25, or 27 inches. Folded (LxW) the chair is 30 x 15 inches. The turning radius with footrests is 32 inches. A folding chrome-plated frame is standard; also available is a black powder-coated frame with blue cross-brace (Model 1510) or a black powder-coated frame with red cross-brace (Model 1520). CONTROLS: Integrated programmable Integra joystick controller. A programmer for the controller is available. RWD: Rear-wheel drive with a direct-drive motor. SEAT (LxW): 16 x 16, 18, or 20 inches. The back height is 16 to 18 inches. The floor-to-seat height is 20 inches. A seat belt is standard. UPHOLSTERY: Black padded nylon upholstery. ARMRESTS: Swing-back, height- adjustable padded armrests. BRAKES: Wheel locks are included. Optional wheel lock extensions are available. WHEELS: 10 x 3 inch molded rear wheels with pneumatic tires and puncture resistant tubes. Tires with airless inserts are available. CASTERS: 8 x 2 inch cast aluminum caster wheels with air foam tires. FOOTRESTS: Cam action swing-away footrests or legrests with roller bumper and heel loop. Calf pads are padded. The rigging length is 16 to 21 inches. Elevating legrests (noted with an "E" in the model number) are available. OPTIONS: IV rod attachment; tray; and oxygen tank holder. POWER: Uses two deep cycle U-1 batteries (not included) with 4-amp, 24-volt external charger; a 10-amp charger and a direct battery charge harness are optional. SPEEDS: 4.6 miles per hour for a range of up to 20 miles per charge. CAPACITY: 250 pounds for models 1500, 1500E, 1500N, and 1500NE or 280 pounds for models 1500W and 1500WE. WEIGHT: 83, 86, or 89 pounds.
