Picture of CHALLENGER FX (MODELS 1700, 1700E, 1700N, 1700NE, 1700W,  1700WE, 1710, & 1720) The Challenger FX is a folding powered wheelchair designed for use by adults with lower extremity, mobility, or neurological disabilities or spinal cord injury. In addition to the standard model 1700, the Challenger FX comes in narrow (N) and wide (W) versions. FRAME (HxLxW): 36 to 38 x 38 x 24, 26, or 28 inches. With extended footrests, the length is 40 inches. Folded dimensions (LxW) are 31 x 15 inches. The turning radius with footrests is 18 inches. The standard frame is a folding chrome-plated frame with front anti-tippers; also available is a powder-coated frame in black with midnight blue cross-brace (model 1710) and or a powder-coated frame in black with burgundy red cross-brace (model 1720). CONTROLS: Integrated programmable Integra joystick controller. A programmer for the controller is optional. FWD: Front wheel drive with two direct drive 0.5-horsepower motors. SEAT (LxW): 16 x 16, 18, or 20 inches. The back height is 16 to 18 inches. The floor-to-seat height is 20 inches. A seat belt is standard. UPHOLSTERY: Black padded nylon upholstery. ARMRESTS: Swing-back, height- adjustable padded armrests. BRAKES: Wheel locks are included; wheel lock extensions are available. WHEELS: 14 x 3 inch aluminum front wheels with pneumatic tires and puncture- resistant tubes. CASTERS: 8 x 2 inch cast aluminum rear caster wheels with air foam tires. FOOTRESTS: Cam action swing-away footrests or legrests with roller bumper and heel loop. Calf pads are padded. The rigging length is 16 to 21 inches. Elevating legrests (noted with an "E" in the model number) are available. OPTIONS: IV rod attachment; tray; and oxygen tank holder. POWER: Uses two deep cycle U-1 batteries (not included) with a 4-amp, 24-volt external charger. A 10-amp charger and a direct battery charge harness are optional. SPEEDS: 4.8 miles per hour for a range of up to 26 miles per charge. CAPACITY: 250 pounds (models 1700, 1700E, 1700N, and 1700NE) or 280 pounds (models 1700W and 1700WE). WEIGHT: 83, 86, or 89 pounds.
