The LIFTKAR PT-U, model 045-728, is a powered stair transport for wheelchair designed for indoor or outdoor use to allow an attendant to easily move a manual wheelchair, whether occupied or unoccupied, up and down most staircases. It is intended for use with an individual with lower extremity or mobility disabilities or spinal cord injury. The device fits most wheelchairs, including sport and children’s wheelchairs. The device consists of a base with two wheels and a platform on each side onto which a wheelchair can roll and a vertical post extending from the base unit topped with a U-shaped grip with a horizontal crossbar on the top between the two handgrips. The crossbar has “Up/Down” switches on both ends. There is another horizontal crossbar lower down on the post with clamps to secure the two vertical supports of a wheelchair’s backrest. The LiftKar PT-U disassembles for storage. OPERATION: A wheelchair is backed up so its rear wheels are on the platforms and the backrest is secured with the clamps. Ascending or descending the stairs is initiated with a push button that engages the motor. Unit, wheelchair and passenger are moved up or down the stairway, and when the motor is engaged, built-in auxiliary wheels extend down from the base unit to provide extra stability while on the stairs. POWER: Uses a rechargeable 24 Volt DC 5.2 amp battery pack. Maximum power capacity is 300-500 stairs. BRAKES: Automatic brakes. OPTIONS: Mobile battery charger. DIMENSIONS (HxWxD): 44.49 x 29.92 (with platforms extended) x 15.16 inches. With the platforms folded, the width is 15.55 inches. The minimum width for the inside frame of a wheelchair is 12.6 inches. The LIFTKAR PT-U requires a landing area of 43.3 x 35.4 inches. Maximum step height is 8.25 inches. WHEELS: 2 3.14-inch wheels with grey non-marking tires. SPEED: 10-18 steps per minute. CAPACITY: Maximum load is 352 pounds. WEIGHT: 60.72 pounds.
