Picture of NOUNS & SOUNDS Nouns & Sounds is a language tutorial program designed for use by individuals with autism, developmental disabilities, language-learning disabilities, and cochlear implants. This program encourages the development of listening skills, auditory discrimination skills, and short-term auditory and visual memory skills as users match common environmental sounds to appropriate realistic pictures. Using Optimized Intervention technology, the program begins with an assessment to determine which sounds a student can't identify. During training, the student is asked to match a sound to a photograph given two or three choices. The program continually tracks a student's performance and automatically guides the learning process. Additional activitites include introducing nouns and sounds, exploring noun sounds, remember that sound, concentrate on noun sounds, and an is this the right sound exercise. The program can be accessed using a mouse, a single switch, or a touch screen. COMPATIBILITY: For use with Macintosh and IBM and compatible computers. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: The IBM and compatible version requires a Pentium 300 megaHertz (MHz)or faster processor; a hard drive with Windows 98, ME, NT, 2000, XP or later; 64 megabytes (MB)RAM; a Windows compatible sound card; and a 8x speed CD drive. The Macintosh version requires a 300 MHz or faster PowerPC; Mac OS 8.1 or later; 128 MB application RAM; 8x speed CD-ROM. Both versions require 800 x 600 screen resolution.
