(Verified 12/2002) RETAINED IN DATABASE FOR REFERENCE. --- WordScholar is a voice output tool designed to simultaneously highlight and speak the text diplayed on the computer monitor for persons with cognitive disabilities. More importantly, it can be used to improve and strengthen the user's ability to write coherent sentences, identify poorly written paragraphs and to quickly notice incorrectly typed information. This program is not constructed to be a spell or grammar checker. It also consists of pop-up menus activated by one of four keys; an American Heritage Dictionary; speech controls for volume, rate, pitch and tone; automatic re-loading of selected preferences; an an on-line "help" mode with a key describer and reminders on how to use functions. In addition, the program supports other languages with the Infovox and Apollo speech synthesizers and can support a variety of other speech sysnthesizers. COMPATIBILITY: runs on IBM and related compatibles using MS-DOS applications. It also can combine with a scanner or reading machines from Arkenstone or Kurzweil/Xerox for access to print materials.
