(Verified 04/2009) RETAINED IN DATABASE FOR REFERENCE. --- The TactileMaps Series is a set of tactile map programs designed for use by individuals who are blind or have low vision. This software is designed for use with the VTPlayer (see separate entry), a tactile electronic game device. Users learn about countries, states, and cities, their location and relative positions, their size and population. Users feel the borders between states and countries, as well as the difference between land and bodies of water, and the location and relationship of continents, major islands, oceans, seas, and other major geographic elements. The names of countries, states, and geographical features, and additional information such as area and population, are heard via an audio track. Two maps are currently available: TactileMaps: USA and TactileMaps: Europe.
