Scan GoSpeech, model SC100, is a voice output bar code reader designed for use by individuals who are blind or have low vision, or who have speech, communication, or neurological disabilities. This bar code scanner based portable speech synthesizer can be used by those who cannot read or speak for grocery shopping or for identifying items around the house or office. It has an unlimited vocabulary using DECtalk speech with a choice of nine male or female voices. For use in the household or office, objects or items must be speech-enabled by inputting the text information into the supplied software, printing UPC-coded labels, and applying the labels to the object/item. The voice synthsizer comes with a built-in liquid crystal (LCD) display with two lines of 16 characters each, and a built-in audio amplifier and speaker. The unit fits on the user's upper arm or forearm, leaving hands free to work when it is not in use. POWER: Uses four double-A or rechargeable batteries. OPTIONS: 2D barcode scanner. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: 2D barcode scanner with serial interface output; personal computer (PC) for running barcode generating software; printer and labels for printing the labels to be affixed to objects/items.
