« Previous Product Next Product »ScanTell is a voice output bar code reader designed for use by individuals who are blind or have low vision. This system identifies and speaks the names of bar-coded products, including retail products and personal items that have been bar coded at home. Bar code labels on work, personal, or retail items are input via a bar code scanner. The items are then located in a cross-referenced, relational database, and the description of each successfully identified item is output using voice synthesizer software and hardware. The system employs audible user prompts and requires minimal keyboard usage. The system consists of a bar code scanning module, a database application, and a speech systhesizer. OPTIONS: System components (scanner, database software, and speech synthesizer) may be purchased separately. COMPATIBILITY: For use on IBM and compatible computers. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: Windows 95 or MS-DOS operating system. For Windows 95 version, 16 megabytes (MB) of random access memory (RAM); Pentium 90 processor; 20 MB of hard disk space, or 320 if AcuVoice is installed on the hard drive; bar code scanner with keyboard wedge interface; CD-ROM drive; SoundBlaster 16 compatible sound card; compatible speech synthesizer (AcuVoice or SounText). For MS-DOS version, 640 kilobytes (KB) of RAM, 5 MB of hard disk space; serial and parallel ports; bar-code scanner with a serial interface; voice synthesizer; compatible sound card.
