The Patterns Primary Braille Spelling and English Program is a spelling and language skills tutorial program designed for use by children who are blind or have low vision. This series is a companion to the Patterns Primary Braille Reading Program (see separate entry). There are four levels in the program. Level A (model 6-78362-00 Print Teacher's Kit and model 6-78363-00 Braille Teacher's Kit) corresponds to the Readiness, Preprimer, and Primer levels of the Patterns reading program. Level B (model 6-78371-00 Print Teacher's Kit and model 6-78372-00 Braille Teacher's Kit) corresponds to the First Reader level in the reading program, Level C (model 6-78380-00 Print Teacher's Kit and model 6-78381-00 Braille Teacher's Kit) corresponds to the Second Reader level, and Level D (model 6-78389-00 Print Teacher's Kit and model 6-78390-00 Braille Teacher's Kit) corresponds to the Third Reader level. Each level of the spelling and language program is composed of textbooks, post-tests, worksheets, and teacher's editions in print or braille. When used with the reading program, it provides a whole language approach to teaching and addresses the problems of braille users who must master the braille code as well as learn to communicate in print.
