AlertUSA is an emergency alert system with monitoring service designed for use by seniors or individuals with balance, mobility, or severe physical disabilities or spinal cord injury. This personal emergency response system (PERS) has two components: a portable, water-proof help button (transmitter), which the user wears or carries, and a receiver unit connected to the user's existing telephone line. If the user experiences a fall or other medical emergency or other type of emergency, he or she presses the portable help button to call for aid. Once the button is pressed, it activates the receiver, which in turn dials the AlertUSA Emergency Response Center. The user is put into two-way, hands-free voice communication with a specialist at the Center, whose computer screen shows the user's pertinent medical history, precise location, preferred hospital, and contact information for closest responders (relatives, neighbors, and friends). The specialist can then contact these responders or local Emergency Services (ambulance, police, fire), and relay the user's information and any special instructions, while remaining in constant voice communication until help arrives.
Notes: A monthly or yearly subscription is required. The monthly subscription costs $15.00/month for the first three months, then $23.00/month for the next nine months and $24.50/month thereafter. Monthly subscriptions may be cancelled anytime after 30 days written notice. The annual subscription costs $18.75/month, billed yearly ($225.00). The subscription may be cancelled anytime after the first three months; there is a $25.00 cancellation fee.
