The Book Port Plus is a digital talking book player and MP3 player designed for use by individuals with blindness or low vision. This small device incorporates an audio book player, an accessible MP3 player, a clockand a voice recorder and player in one unit. The Book Port Plus contains a Wi-Fi chip, USB port, SD card port (up to 32 gigabytes [GB]), stereo microphone and headphone jacks, and a built-in speaker and microphone. One SD card is included. The USB can be used to connect to a computer to manage content; a CD with the Book Transfer software, documentation and a free book is included. This product can read digital talking books from National Library Service (NLS), including both downloaded titles and titles sent in the mail on a cartridge; digital talking books from Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic (RFB&D) (downloaded from their website or ordered on CD); digital talking books from Bookshare.org; audio books from Audible.com; text-based books downloaded from various websites; or books scanned by the user with optical character recognition software. The unit must be authorized through RFB&D or NLS to play recordings from these organizations, and the user must have an account to use Bookshare.org. The Book Port Plus supports a variety of file formats, including Word, text, and HTML as well as Daisy, including 2.x and 3.x audio and text formats. The Wi-Fi capability also allows the user to play internet radio or download podcasts. Ear buds, short and long USB cables, and a carrying pouch are also included. OPTIONS: An optional USB-powered CD-ROM drive is available from commercial vendors to play the CDs directly from the Book Port Plus. DIMENSIONS (LxWxD): 4.4 x 2.2 x 0.06 inches. POWER: The Book Port Plus has a rechargeable lithium-polymer battery. An AC adapter, 100-240 Volt, 50-60 Hertz, with a braille label is included, and the device also can be charged via USB.
