CaptionMeNow is captioning software for digital audio and video designed for use by Web designers to make their web content accessible to individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing. This automatic captioning system for Web site audio or video content creates a written transcript of existing audio or video content on demand, whenever a Web user selects the CaptionMeNow button. The program also automatically synchronizes the transcript with audio and reintegrates it into the appropriate multimedia format. The program evaluates speech quality and supplements automated captioning with self-editing tools and shadowing when appropriate. For example, when the speech quality of an audio or video clip is adequate, captioning occurs automatically. When audio speech is unclear, the content is routed to self-editing tools.

Notes: CaptionMeNow is an IBM research project. It is not a commercial product, but the technology is available for licensing. For more information, see the CaptionMeNow page on the IBM web site, http://www.research.ibm.com/mcs/CMN/cmn_index.html.
