Emerging Technology: Magi-Mouse
By Tech Connections Direct,Publication Date: February 2003
Article describes a mouse or joystick alternative based on tilt sensor technology. The Magi-Mouse consists of a small radio frequency (RF) receiver connected to a computer’s USB or PS/2 port. Small tilt sensors located on the user’s head, hand, or foot supply the Magi-Mouse control module with electronic signals that enable point and click functions on the computer screen. The Magi-Mouse system simulates a proportional joystick and responds to directional tilt. Click and drag functions are controlled by customizable defined movements such as a head nod for left click. The device works with software applications and environmental control hardware; up to eight systems can be used in proximity to each other without interference.
