CSD, Interpretek and SLC Announce VRS Alliance in Rochester, N.Y.
By Hearing Exchange,Publication Date: 2003
Article announcing that two sign language interpreting agencies, Interpretek and SLC, will provide a complete, multi-faceted video relay service (VRS) platform, along with the workforce for a video call center in Rochester, New York. Video relay services combine traditional relay services, web-based video conferencing technology, and sign language interpreters to provide an innovative communications solution. To use VRS, people who use sign language need a personal computer, a video camera, and high-speed Internet access. Consumers can access the service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on the VRS web site (www.usavrs.com). When the video interpreter appears on the screen, the user provides the phone number he or she would like to call, and proceeds with the conversation by signing to the interpreter, who relays the conversation to the called party. The call center in Rochester is one of nine centers in the United States.
