Using the Windows CE operating system, this portable unit permits reading, writing, and manipulation of text; forward and back translators provide flexibility in handling both print and Braille and embossing and printing can be accomplished without reformating. Input is accomplished with the Braille keyboard and output is achieved via synthesized speech or a choice of 18- or 32-cell refreshable Braille display. Other standard features include E-mail capability, a calendar and scheduler, an address list manager, and a scientific calculator. The unit is equipped with an infrared port, an internal modem, PCMCIA slot, and serial and parallel ports, permitting connectivity with personal computers (PCs), computer monitor, printers, embossers, and visual displays. The central processing unit, five megabyte hard drive, and non-volatile flash memory permit fast processing and storage of hundreds of files and pages of Braille. The unit can be connected to the serial port of a desktop or laptop computer to, with the addition of a screen reading program (not included), make the computer accessible in Braille. POWER: The included rechargeable battery pack provides up to 21 hours of use per charge; charging requires approximately three hours. An alternating current (AC) adapter is also included. OPTIONS: 3.5-inch super disk drive. DIMENSIONS: 10.8 x 6.5 x 2 inches. WEIGHT: 2 pounds with battery pack.
