The Cost and Financing of Home Modifications in the United States

Article highlights the need for and impact of loan financing programs for the acquisition of assistive technology (AT). A historical presentation of the origins of credit financing for people with disabilities is discussed, with special consideration to AT provision. A policy review of AT loan financing is presented. The author concludes by discussing key features of a successful program, and implications for the future of credit financing in the lives of people with disabilities.
