Assistive Technology Teams: A Model for Developing School District Teams

By Newton, Deborah A.; Journal of Special Education Technology, Vol. 19, No. 3, pp. 47-49
Publication Date: Summer 2004

Article discusses the training of an assistive technology team funded by a Comprehensive System of Personnel Development, which is mandated by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act to provide in-service and pre-service training for all school personnel who provide services to students with disabilities. Initial training activities for the AT team were focused on meeting students’ individual needs, rather than on the actual technology utilized during interventions. Such a student-centered approach was utilized in order to create an effective and lasting service delivery process. Intervention and teacher education details are discussed.
