Opera Gives Its Browser a Voice

By Law, Gillian; PC World,
Publication Date: March 23, 2004

Article discusses the pairing of Opera Software and IBM’s ViaVoice Technology, which will allow Opera’s web browser to be operated by voice commands. A voice input web browser has obvious implications for people with disabilities, and could also be useful for many other people who prefer using their voice to surf the Internet rather than a keyboard and mouse. People using the software can simply tell the browser what web page to visit, and can say “scroll down,” or “scroll up” when viewing a page. Web page creation compatibility with the application is discussed.
