To Work or Not to Work? The Occupational Trajectories of Wheelchair Users
By Ville, Isabelle; Winance, Myriam; Disability and Rehabilitation, Vol. 28, No. 7, pp. 423-436Publication Date: April 2006
Paper focuses on the work experiences of people in France who used wheelchairs via qualitative interviews. A total of 13 women and 23 men who had been using wheelchairs for at least three years participated in the interviews, which consisted of questions regarding the participants’ training, careers, non-professional activities, and future projects. The researchers were able to identify a diverse range of career trajectories from the interviews, which included unstable, intermittent, and enduring work experiences. Implications for future research are discussed.
