Paper focuses on an auxiliary support system designed to allow people with severe physical disabilities to easily and independently utilize an electric wheelchair. The system allows the user to send images with a request for assistance to remote support personnel, and to receive voice assistance via a wireless network. The wireless network utilizes cellular phones and wireless LAN technology. The system also transmits the voice of support personnel, who can provide valuable help and instructions. Also, the system can be used to display the route with the least barriers between a two points. Various diagrams of images and routes utilized by the system are presented. This paper was written by researchers at the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) in Japan.
