This article describes the design, development and evaluation of powered mobility aids for severely disabled children who are unable to use conventional powered chairs. The authors present the results of a 3 year evaluation of 12 "SMART" wheelchairs used for mobility and mobility training. An extensive summary details the findings of the project.
