Telecare: Home Monitor
By Sims, Jenny; Healthcare Equipment and Supplies (HES) Magazine ,Publication Date: February 2006
Article focuses on the Laing and Buisson 2006 Telecare and Assistive Technology Conference, which was held in London in January 2006. The conference was held to raise awareness of the potential of technology to allow care to be delivered to clients outside of the hospital. The Purchasing and Supply Agency of the United Kingdom's National Health Service placed an advertisement in the Official Journal of the European Union for the provision of telecare and telehealth equipment, as well as installation, response and maintenance services. This way, a wide range of public sector, voluntary, and independent organizations could help to develop remote health care technologies. The following technologies earmarked for development are listed and briefly discussed: (1) bed occupancy sensors, (2) enureses monitors, (3) fall detectors, (4) flood detectors, (5) overheat detectors for stoves and burners, (6) medication dispensers, (7) epilepsy monitors, and (8) lifestyle monitoring devices.
