New iPhone Popularity Prompts Safe Listening Reminder

By Hearing Review - The Insider,
Publication Date: July 2007

Article focuses on safety tips provided by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association for people who listen to music on their Apple iPhones, which can be valuable for people with and without hearing disabilities. The following safety tips are provided: (1) keep the volume down; (2) avoid prolonged, continuous listening by taking frequent breaks; and (3) wear headphones that isolate wanted music from background noise. Researchers at ASHA contend that roughly 10 million Americans develop hearing loss as a result of excess noise exposure. Polls have also indicated that Americans listen to personal audio technology too loudly and for too long.
